Lord of Lords Christian Church’s Solar Story initiative reflects the visionary leadership of our Senior Pastor, who expanded his role beyond spiritual guidance to champion environmental stewardship and energy justice. Facing the burden of high energy costs on Detroit congregations, our pastor sought innovative solutions aligned with our church’s mission of service and sustainability.
Today, our pastor’s leadership extends to guiding other congregations through Solar Faithful and Eco Works, helping them secure funding, manage solar installations, and embrace a more sustainable future. As the first Black church to go solar in Detroit—and the third in Michigan—Lord of Lords Christian Church has set a powerful precedent for energy justice.
Our journey underscores that environmental stewardship is not only about protecting the planet but also about driving social justice and economic empowerment for historically marginalized communities.

Our Approach to Environmental Stewardship
At Lord of Lords, we believe that caring for God's creation is an essential expression of our faith. Our approach to environmental stewardship is built on three core principles:
Faith-Based Leardership
We integrate environmental responsibility into our spiritual practice, recognizing that stewardship of the Earth is a sacred duty given to us by God.
Community Empowerment
We work to ensure that the benefits of clean energy are accessible to all communities, especially those that have been historically underserved or disproportionately affected by environmental challenges.
Practical Sustainability
We demonstrate that sustainable practices can be both spiritually fulfilling and financially beneficial, helping congregations reduce costs while fulfilling their mission.
Our Impact
- 100% of our church's electricity now comes from solar energy
- $15,000 annual savings on energy costs redirected to ministry
- 6 dedicated investors who made our solar installation possible
- 12 partner churches currently in the process of going solar
- 40% average reduction in carbon footprint for participating congregations
- We've also expanded our sustainability initiatives to include:
- Backup battery systems for power security
- Solar-powered lighting for church grounds and parking areas
- Energy-efficient upgrades throughout our facilities

Solar Faithful: Coaching for Congregations
Through our Solar Faithful program, we provide comprehensive coaching to faith communities interested in transitioning to solar energy. Our experienced team guides congregations through every step of the process:
- Technical assessments and system design
- Financial planning and investment strategies
- Grant identification and application assistance
- Implementation support and contractor selection
- Community engagement and education
- We understand the unique challenges facing houses of worship and have developed specialized approaches that address both the practical and spiritual dimensions of this important transition.
